A flock of five Avocets stopped off at the at Willen North Lake and stayed long enough to be admired by several local birders. In the above photos they all appear to be trying to feed, but the availability of the right sort of food is no doubt a problem on inland waters. This coincides with a few other inland records around this time.

Broughton Trout Pools, Nr Aylesbury - 6th April 2007

A flock of four Avocets were found at Broughton Trout Pools by Mike Wallen. The word was put out and several birders connected with this scarce Buckinghamshire vagrant. They were later disturbed by a Heron and flew off, but landed a few miles away at College Lake were several more birders managed to catch with them until they finally departed just before 4pm.

This individual was found by Jon Holt sat on the tern rafts. It stayed around for several hours allowing local birders to get a county tick. For details of all Avocet records in the county click here.
Little Marlow GP - 24th March 2002

This individual was found by Alan Stevens at around 8:00am. Several local birders managed to connect with it before it flew off after an hour or so. These photos were taken of a considerable distance hence the poor quality. Avocets are scarce birds in Bucks with only 13 records until the end of 2000.
