Willen Lake - 26th March 2008

A flock of five Avocets stopped off at the at Willen North Lake and stayed long enough to be admired by several local birders.  In the above photos they all appear to be trying to feed, but the availability of the right sort of food is no doubt a problem on inland waters.  This coincides with a few other inland records around this time.

This individual was found by Alan Stevens at around 8:00am.  Several local birders managed to connect with it before it flew off after an hour or so.  These photos were taken of a considerable distance hence the poor quality.  Avocets are scarce birds in Bucks with only 13 records until the end of 2000.  For details of all Avocet records in the county click here.
