This bird appeared in front of Tim as he sat on the ground.
Little Owls are common residents found across the county, preferring open areas such as farmland and parks with mature trees suitable for nest holes. Although largely nocturnal they do frequently hunt during the day.

This washing line in Gerry's garden was the rather usual perch for this adult Little Owl. The picture was taken with a Nikon D100 with 300mm plus 2x converter in June. The first picture was taken earlier in the year. Apparently Little Owl are fairly regular visitors to Gerry's garden, which backs on to fields.
