A common resident breeding species in the county, it's song is very familiar to many people, including non-birders. However many people would not be so sure when faced with seeing one on the ground. The above photos show it's plumage off well and also show that the crest is not always held erect.
Tim spent some time trying to get a photograph of this rather timid species. It prefers to stay well away from the edges of fields and also likes to stay close to cover.
